Sprouts vs. Microgreens: What's the Difference?

Different plants, different stages

Sprouts are germinated seeds eaten whole — root, seed, and shoot — usually after just a few days in water. Microgreens are grown in soil or a growing medium and harvested after the first true leaves appear, then snipped above the root.

Flavor and use

Microgreens deliver more developed flavor and a wider variety, from nutty sunflower to peppery radish. They're the chef's choice for finishing and garnish.
